Recurrent Reasonable Suspicion for Supervisors

The FAA Recurrent Training refresher course is an interactive online course designed to satisfy the Title 14 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) Part 120 training that is required every 12-18 months. Upon completion, you shall receive a certificate that keeps you compliant with 14 CFR Part 120 Reasonable Suspicion and Drug Training.

14 CFR Part 120 Supervisor and Employee training requirements:

  • Employee Training (Drug Testing Program):

    • Must cover effects and consequences of drug use on health, safety, and work environment.
    • Includes recognizing manifestations and behavioral cues of drug use.
    • Documentation of training provided to employees and supervisors.
  • Supervisor Training (Drug Testing Program):

    • Supervisors for reasonable cause determinations must receive at least 60 minutes of initial training.
    • Training includes identifying physical, behavioral, and performance indicators of drug use.
    • Recurrent training recommended every 12-18 months.
  • Alcohol Testing Program:

    • Educational materials provided on alcohol misuse requirements and employer policies.
    • Supervisors for reasonable suspicion determinations must receive 60 minutes of training on indicators of alcohol misuse.
    • No specific requirement for recurrent training, but periodic reviews are recommended.

 

FAA Drug and Alcohol Training Requirements Overview

The FAA mandates specific training and distribution requirements outlined in 14 CFR §§ 120.115 and 120.223 for safety-sensitive employees and their supervisors, particularly those involved in reasonable cause/suspicion testing determinations.

  • Drug Testing Requirements:
